S: 'Amd ibn Abid al-Hadhrami

Ahmad ibn Nasr ibn Ahmad ibn 'Uthman al-Wa'iz informed us, with a narration, Abu al-'Ala' Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Jabbar informed us, Abu al-Hasan 'Ali ibn Yahya ibn Ja'far informed us, Sulayman ibn Ahmad ibn Ayub informed us, 'Ali ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz informed us, Abu 'Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Salam informed us, Abu 'Ubaydah Ma'mar ibn al-Muthanna informed me, my brother Yazid ibn al-Muthanna informed us, from Salama ibn Sa'id, he said: We were at Mu'awiya's, he said: I wish we had someone who could tell us about what has passed from the past, does it resemble what we have now? It was said to him: You are from Hadhramaut, a man who has seen three hundred years, Mu'awiya sent for him, and he came to him, when he entered upon him, he dismissed him, then he said to him: What is your name? He said: 'Amd ibn Abid, he said to him: How many years have passed for you? He said: Three hundred years, Mu'awiya said to him: You have lied, then he turned to his companions, and he narrated to them for an hour, then he turned to him, he said: Tell us, O old man, he said to him: And what do you do with the hadith of the liar? He said: By Allah, I did not lie to you, and I know you by your lying, but I wanted to inform you from your intellect, so I see you as intelligent, tell us about what has passed from the past, does it resemble what we have now? He said: Yes, it resembles what you see, a night comes from here, and goes to there, he said: Inform me about the most astonishing thing you have seen? He said: I saw the wound coming out from Sham until it reached Mecca, it does not need food or drink, it eats from the fruits, and drinks from the springs, then it is now as you see it, he said: And what is the sign of that? He said: The provinces of Allah in the lands as you see them, then he asked him about 'Abd al-Muttalib, and about Umayya ibn 'Abd Shams, then he said to him: Have you seen Muhammad? He said: And who is Muhammad? He said: The Messenger of Allah, he said: Glory be to Allah, did you not magnify him with what Allah magnified him with? Did you not say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ yes, he said: Describe him to me, he said: I saw him with my father and mother, I did not see before him or after him like him, and he mentioned the hadith.
