Samurah ibn Mu'ir

Sumayr ibn Ma'iyir ibn Lu'than ibn Rabi'a ibn 'Ariq ibn Sa'd ibn Jamuh al-Qurashi al-Jumahi, Abu Mu'adhurra. His kunya overpowered his name, and he became famous by it. There is a mention of him in another place, and Allah willing, he will be remembered better than this. There is a disagreement about his name, it is said: Sumayr, and it is said: Aws, and something else is said.

He was narrated from by: Ibn 'Abd al-Malik, Ibn Mahiriz, Ibn Abi Malikah, 'Ata', 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Rafi', and others.

We were informed by Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Mihran al-Faqih, and others, who said: They narrated to us from Muhammad ibn Isa. Bishr ibn Mu'adh informed us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Mu'adhura informed us, he said: My father and my grandfather informed me, from Abu Mu'adhura: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed him, and put the call to prayer upon him, phrase by phrase.' Ibrahim said, 'Like our call to prayer.'

Bishr said: I said to him, 'Repeat it for me.' He described the call to prayer with the phrase 'al-tarji'.

Abu Mu'adhura died in Mecca in the year nine and seventy.
