Biography of Hazm ibn Abi Kab
Hazm ibn Abi Kab al-Ansari, a Medinan, reported from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Jabir that he saw Hazm pass by Ma'adh ibn Jabal while he was leading his people in the 'Asr prayer. He recited Surah al-Baqarah and then left. They awoke the next morning, and Hazm went to Ma'adh, who had met the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Ma'adh said, 'O Prophet of Allah, I do not know what innovation Hazm has introduced tonight.' Hazm then arrived and said, 'O Prophet of Allah, I passed by Ma'adh, and he had begun reciting Surah al-Baqarah. I prayed and felt satisfied with my prayer, and then I left.' The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'O Ma'adh, do not be deceitful, for after you, there will be the weak, the elderly, and the needy.'
