Sahl

Dhikr 'Ulama' (D'U): Sahl was not named, his name was originally 'Huzn,' so the Prophet ﷺ named him Sahl.

Authored by Ibn Mandah, Abu Nu'aym, and others, from 'Abd al-Muhaymin b. 'Abbas b. Sahl b. Sa'd, from his father, from his grandfather, that a man whose name was 'Huzn' was named Sahl by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and this is the wording of Ibn Mandah.

Abu Nu'aym said: from his father, from his grandfather, that his name was 'Huzn,' so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named him Sahl, so he is Sahl b. Sa'd al-Sa'idi.
