Definition of Blindness / Misguidance

Al-'amah: hesitation in a matter from confusion.

One says: 'amiha, he is 'amih and 'amah.

The Almighty says: 'in their transgression, they wander blindly' (Al-Baqara 15).

Wandering in doubt prevents seeing truth.

Surah Al-Baqara : 15 Medinan

﴿ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ﴾

[But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly.

Surah Al-An'am : 110 Meccan

﴿وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْـِٔدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَٰرَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِهِۦٓ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَنَذَرُهُمْ فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ﴾

And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it the first time. And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly.

Surah Al-A'raf : 186 Meccan

﴿مَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا هَادِىَ لَهُۥ وَيَذَرُهُمْ فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ﴾

Whoever Allah sends astray - there is no guide for him. And He leaves them in their transgression, wandering blindly.

Surah Yunus : 11 Meccan

﴿وَلَوْ يُعَجِّلُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ ٱلشَّرَّ ٱسْتِعْجَالَهُم بِٱلْخَيْرِ لَقُضِىَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَجَلُهُمْ فَنَذَرُ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ﴾

And if Allah was to hasten for the people the evil [they invoke] as He hastens for them the good, their term would have been ended for them. But We leave the ones who do not expect the meeting with Us, in their transgression, wandering blindly

Surah Al-Hijr : 72 Meccan

﴿لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ﴾

By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.

Surah Al-Mu'minun : 75 Meccan

﴿وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَٰهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرٍّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ﴾

And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.

Surah An-Naml : 4 Meccan

﴿إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ زَيَّنَّا لَهُمْ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ فَهُمْ يَعْمَهُونَ﴾

Indeed, for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have made pleasing to them their deeds, so they wander blindly.
