Zahaqat nafsuhu: his soul departed out of intense regret for something.
The Almighty says: 'and their souls depart' (At-Tawba 55), 'Indeed, falsehood is bound to perish' (Al-Isra 81).
It refers to gradual annihilation like the departing soul.
