Definition of Luxury / Wealth
Al-turfa: abundance in blessings.
One says 'utrifa fulân' (so-and-so was showered with luxury), he is 'mutraf'.
Allah says: 'And We gave them ease (atrafnâhum) in worldly life' (Al-Mu'minûn: 33).
Al-mutrafûn are those whom luxury has made arrogant and ungrateful toward Allah.
So why were there not among the generations before you those of enduring discrimination forbidding corruption on earth - except a few of those We saved from among them? But those who wronged pursued what luxury they were given therein, and they were criminals.
And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.
And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.
And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following."

﴿إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ﴾
