Definition of Pride / Arrogance

Al-ashar (excessive arrogance): the excess of pride.

Ashira ya'sharu asharan: to be excessively arrogant.

Allah says: 'They will know tomorrow who is the arrogant liar (al-ashir)' (Al-Qamar: 26).

Al-ashar is more intense than batar (pride), and batar is more intense than joy.
