Definition of To shout / To call

As-sayha: raising the voice.

The Almighty says: 'It was only one cry' (Ya-Sin 29). 'And the cry seized them' (Hud 67) for the people of Thamud.

The divine cry annihilates disobedient peoples.

As-siyah: the loud and terrifying cry.

Surah Hud : 67 Meccan

﴿وَأَخَذَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دِيَـٰرِهِمْ جَـٰثِمِينَ﴾

And the shriek seized those who had wronged, and they became within their homes [corpses] fallen prone

Surah Hud : 94 Meccan

﴿وَلَمَّا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا شُعَيْبًۭا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ بِرَحْمَةٍۢ مِّنَّا وَأَخَذَتِ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دِيَـٰرِهِمْ جَـٰثِمِينَ﴾

And when Our command came, We saved Shu'ayb and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us. And the shriek seized those who had wronged, and they became within their homes [corpses] fallen prone

Surah Al-Hijr : 73 Meccan

﴿فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ﴾

So the shriek seized them at sunrise.

Surah Al-Hijr : 83 Meccan

﴿فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ﴾

But the shriek seized them at early morning.

Surah Al-Mu'minun : 41 Meccan

﴿فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ غُثَآءًۭ ۚ فَبُعْدًۭا لِّلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ﴾

So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.

Surah Al-'Ankabut : 40 Meccan

﴿فَكُلًّا أَخَذْنَا بِذَنۢبِهِۦ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ حَاصِبًۭا وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَخَذَتْهُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ خَسَفْنَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَغْرَقْنَا ۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ﴾

So each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast [from the sky], and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And Allah would not have wronged them, but it was they who were wronging themselves.

Surah Ya-Sin : 29 Meccan

﴿إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَإِذَا هُمْ خَـٰمِدُونَ﴾

It was not but one shout, and immediately they were extinguished.

Surah Ya-Sin : 49 Meccan

﴿مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ﴾

They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing.

Surah Ya-Sin : 53 Meccan

﴿إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌۭ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ﴾

It will not be but one blast, and at once they are all brought present before Us.

Surah Sad : 15 Meccan

﴿وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍۢ﴾

And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay.

Surah Qaf : 42 Meccan

﴿يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيْحَةَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُرُوجِ﴾

The Day they will hear the blast [of the Horn] in truth. That is the Day of Emergence [from the graves].

Surah Al-Qamar : 31 Meccan

﴿إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ﴾

Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.

Surah Al-Munafiqun : 4 Medinan

﴿۞ وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ تُعْجِبُكَ أَجْسَامُهُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَقُولُوا۟ تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ ۖ كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌۭ مُّسَنَّدَةٌۭ ۖ يَحْسَبُونَ كُلَّ صَيْحَةٍ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ هُمُ ٱلْعَدُوُّ فَٱحْذَرْهُمْ ۚ قَـٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ أَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ﴾

And when you see them, their forms please you, and if they speak, you listen to their speech. [They are] as if they were pieces of wood propped up - they think that every shout is against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded?
