Definition of To stone / Stone

Al-rijâm: stones.

Al-rajm: throwing stones.

Allah says: 'Stoned (rajîm)' (Al-Hijr: 17).

Satan is 'rajîm': pelted with stones (shooting stars).

Rajm can be physical (stoning) or verbal (accusation without proof).

Surah Âl 'Imrân : 36 Medinan

﴿فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْهَا قَالَتْ رَبِّ إِنِّى وَضَعْتُهَآ أُنثَىٰ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا وَضَعَتْ وَلَيْسَ ٱلذَّكَرُ كَٱلْأُنثَىٰ وَإِنِّى سَمَّيْتُهَا مَرْيَمَ وَإِنِّىٓ أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ﴾

But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allah was most knowing of what she delivered, "And the male is not like the female. And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allah]."

Surah Hud : 91 Meccan

﴿قَالُوا۟ يَٰشُعَيْبُ مَا نَفْقَهُ كَثِيرًا مِّمَّا تَقُولُ وَإِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِينَا ضَعِيفًا وَلَوْلَا رَهْطُكَ لَرَجَمْنَٰكَ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْنَا بِعَزِيزٍ﴾

They said, "O Shu'ayb, we do not understand much of what you say, and indeed, we consider you among us as weak. And if not for your family, we would have stoned you [to death]; and you are not to us one respected."

Surah Al-Hijr : 17 Meccan

﴿وَحَفِظْنَٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ﴾

And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allah]

Surah Al-Hijr : 34 Meccan

﴿قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ﴾

[Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.

Surah An-Nahl : 98 Meccan

﴿فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ﴾

So when you recite the Qur'an, [first] seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy].

Surah Al-Kahf : 20 Meccan

﴿إِنَّهُمْ إِن يَظْهَرُوا۟ عَلَيْكُمْ يَرْجُمُوكُمْ أَوْ يُعِيدُوكُمْ فِى مِلَّتِهِمْ وَلَن تُفْلِحُوٓا۟ إِذًا أَبَدًا﴾

Indeed, if they come to know of you, they will stone you or return you to their religion. And never would you succeed, then - ever."

Surah Al-Kahf : 22 Meccan

﴿سَيَقُولُونَ ثَلَٰثَةٌ رَّابِعُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ خَمْسَةٌ سَادِسُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ رَجْمًۢا بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَيَقُولُونَ سَبْعَةٌ وَثَامِنُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ قُل رَّبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ بِعِدَّتِهِم مَّا يَعْلَمُهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ فَلَا تُمَارِ فِيهِمْ إِلَّا مِرَآءً ظَٰهِرًا وَلَا تَسْتَفْتِ فِيهِم مِّنْهُمْ أَحَدًا﴾

They will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone."

Surah Maryam : 46 Meccan

﴿قَالَ أَرَاغِبٌ أَنتَ عَنْ ءَالِهَتِى يَٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ لَأَرْجُمَنَّكَ وَٱهْجُرْنِى مَلِيًّا﴾

[His father] said, "Have you no desire for my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will surely stone you, so avoid me a prolonged time."

Surah Ash-Shu'ara : 116 Meccan

﴿قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَٰنُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمَرْجُومِينَ﴾

They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned."

Surah Ya-Sin : 18 Meccan

﴿قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ﴾

They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you, from us, a painful punishment."

Surah Sad : 77 Meccan

﴿قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ﴾

[Allah] said, "Then get out of Paradise, for indeed, you are expelled.

Surah Ad-Dukhan : 20 Meccan

﴿وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ﴾

And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.

Surah Al-Mulk : 5 Meccan

﴿وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِمَصَٰبِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَٰهَا رُجُومًا لِّلشَّيَٰطِينِ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلسَّعِيرِ﴾

And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with stars and have made [from] them what is thrown at the devils and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.

Surah At-Takwir : 25 Meccan

﴿وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ﴾

And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].
