Definition of Whip / Punishment

As-sawt: the braided leather with which one strikes.

Originally, as-sawt means mixing one thing with another.

One says: beating eggs.

The Almighty says: 'Your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment' (Al-Fajr 13), meaning a mixed and varied punishment.
