Jabbar ibn Sakhr

Jabbar ibn Sakhr ibn Umayyah ibn Khansa ibn Sinan, and it is said: Khunais ibn Sinan ibn Ubayd ibn Adi ibn Ghunm ibn Ka'b ibn Salama the Ansari Khazraji.

We were informed by Abu Yasir Hiba Allah ibn Abd al-Wahhab ibn Hiba Allah, in his chain of narration, from Abdullah ibn Ahmad, who said: My father told me, that Husayn ibn Muhammad told him, that Abu Uways told him, from Shurahbil, from Jabbar ibn Sakhr the Ansari, one of the sons of Salama, who said: The Messenger of Allah said while he was on a road: 'Whoever precedes us to the water and fills it and makes it abundant until we come to it?'

Jabbar said: So I stood up, and said: I am, and he said: Go, so I went and came to the water, and I filled it and made it abundant, then my eyes became heavy and I fell asleep, and I did not wake up until I saw a man whose camel was trying to take him to the water, so I held its halter back from it, and said: O companion of the water, fill your water, for it is the Messenger of Allah.'

I said: Yes, so he filled his camel's water, then he left and I followed him with water, and he washed his face and hands and did it well, and I washed my face and hands with him, then he stood up to pray, so I stood up to his left, and he turned me to his right, and we prayed, then the people came, and his mention was mentioned before, and Jabbar was his companion, and he was narrated by the three, except that Ibn Mandah and Abu Na'im said: The Messenger of Allah sent him as a scout to the polytheists with Jabbar.

However, this is not the case, rather he was sent to fetch water, as we mentioned in the hadith, and they also mentioned it in the text of the hadith, so we conclude that what they said was a mistake, and Allah knows best.
