Dhahabi: Huashib, the companion of the Messenger of Allah

Abu Yasir ibn Hibat Allah ibn Abd al-Wahhab informed us, with his isnad to Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal, he said: My father informed me, Abu Yasir ibn Hibat Allah ibn Abd al-Wahhab, that Yahya ibn Ishaq ibn Kinanah informed us, that Ibn Lahiyah informed us, from Abdullah ibn Hubayrah al-Saba'i, from Hassan ibn Kurayb, that a boy from them died in Hims, and his father found him in a state of greater joy, so Huashib, the companion of the Prophet said to him: Shall I inform you of what I heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, about a similar son of yours? Indeed, a man from his companions had a son who had reached the age of maturity, and he would come with his father to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and then he died, and his father found him near six days later, not coming to the Prophet and saying: 'I do not see so-and-so,' they said: O Prophet of Allah, your son has died and his father found him, so the Messenger of Allah said when he saw him: 'Do you wish that your son were with you now, like the most vigorous of boys and the most hopeful of them, or it would be said to you: Enter Paradise with the reward of what we took from you?'

Abu Nuaym and Ibn Mandah narrated it, and Abu Nuaym said: Ibn Mandah and Abu Nuaym made Huashib al-Zulmi one, and narrated this hadith in his biography as mentioned earlier, and the truth is with him.

I do not doubt that Ibn Mandah and Abu Nuaym, when they saw the hadith's chain of transmission from Egypt, thought it was from Egypt, but this is from Syria, so they thought it was not from him, and it is indeed him, for the deceased mentioned that he was from Hims, which is in Syria, and it is possible that they heard the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say this. . .

And it is known that al-Zulmi did not reach the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, nor did he see him, so they thought it was not him, [and as for] Ibn Lahiyah, there is no need for him, and Allah knows best.
