Salim al-Ansari

Salim al-Ansari al-Salami from Banu Salama, witnessed Badr, and was killed on the Day of Uhud, as stated by Ibn Mandah, and Abu Nai'm, who also attributed him to: Salim ibn al-Harith ibn Tha'laba al-Salami.

Abu Yasir ibn Abu Habba informed us through his chain of transmission, from Abdullah, who said: My father told me that Afwan informed us that Wahib informed us from Amr ibn Yahya, from Mu'adh ibn Rifaa', that a man from Banu Salama, known as: Salim, came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, Mu'adh comes to us after we have slept and we are engaged in our daytime activities, and he calls us to prayer, so we go out to him, and he prolongs the prayer for us, so the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Mu'adh, do not be stubborn, either pray with me, or ease the prayer for your people.'

Then the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Salim, what portion of the Quran do you have with you?' He said: I have with me that I ask Allah for Paradise, and seek refuge in Him from the Fire. My feet and Mu'adh's feet are not the best, so the Prophet ﷺ said: 'And is my foot and Mu'adh's foot not the best, except that we ask Allah for Paradise, and seek refuge in Him from the Fire.'

Salim said: You will see tomorrow, if Allah wills, when we meet the people, and the people are preparing for Uhud, so he went out, and it was mentioned that he was one of the martyrs. Ibn Mandah added to Abu Nai'm and Abu Umar that he narrated from Ibn Ishaq in this translation, about those who witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah from Banu Dinar ibn al-Najjar, then from Banu Masud ibn Abd al-Ashhal: Salim ibn al-Harith ibn Tha'laba, and he also narrated in it from Ibn Ishaq, about those who were killed on the Day of Uhud from Banu al-Najjar: Salim ibn al-Harith.

I said: Ibn Mandah's narration that Salim ibn al-Harith, who told the Prophet ﷺ about Mu'adh's prayer, is the same one he mentioned from Ibn Ishaq that he witnessed Badr, and was killed on the Day of Uhud, so he combined them in one translation, while Abu Umar thought they were two, so he made them two translations, this one, and the other one that mentions after this, and he did not attribute this one, except he said: Salim al-Ansari, and attributed the second one to Dinar ibn al-Najjar, as you see, and he mentioned in this translation the story of Mu'adh, and in the second one that he was killed on the Day of Uhud, and I think the truth is with him, for Ibn Mandah has made a mistake, for he said in his prayer with Mu'adh: A man from Banu Salama, known as: Salim, and he mentioned about the one killed on Uhud, and the one who witnessed Badr: that he was from Banu Dinar ibn al-Najjar, so it is not the case that the companion from Sham is a friend to the companion from Iraq, for Banu Salama do not meet with Banu Dinar ibn al-Najjar except in the larger Khazraj, for Banu Salama are the children of Jashm ibn al-Khazraj, and al-Najjar is the son of Tha'laba ibn Malik ibn al-Khazraj, and what strengthens this is that the one praying is from Banu
