Biography of Khalid ibn al-Walid
Abd al-Rahman bin Khaled bin al-Walid bin al-Mughirah al-Qurashi al-Makhzoumi caught up with the Prophet ﷺ and saw him. His father had companions, his mother Asma bint Asad bin Mudrik al-Khathami, nicknamed Abu Muhammad. Abd al-Rahman was one of the bravest horsemen of Quraysh, known for sound conduct, merit, and generosity. However, he opposed Ali and Banu Hashim, unlike his brother Al-Muhajir bin Khalid, who supported Ali and fought beside him at the Camel and Siffin. Abd al-Rahman fought at Siffin with Muawiyah, settled in Homs, and had accompanied his father at the Battle of Yarmouk. Muawiyah repeatedly appointed him to lead campaigns against the Byzantines, in which he fought several engagements. He had some incidents with them. When Abbas bin Al-Walid became governor of Homs, the noble people of Homs said: O people of Homs, why do you not remember one of your princes like you remember Abd al-Rahman bin Khalid?
Some of them said: He used to approach our honorable person, forgive our sins, sit in our courtyards, walk in our markets, visit our sick, attend our funerals, and do justice to our oppressed. And Another report states: When Muawiyah wanted to pledge allegiance to his son Yazid, he addressed the people of the Levant and said: O people of the Levant, my age has grown, and my end is near. I wanted to marry a man who would be your regime. I am a man of you, so applaud Al-Rida with Abd al-Rahman ibn Khalid ibn al-Walid. This was difficult for Muawiyah and he took it to his heart. Then Abd al-Rahman fell ill, so Ibn Athal the Christian entered upon him and gave him poison and he died. Some reports state: Muawiyah commanded him to do so, and that was in the year seven. And forty. Muhammad bin Saad said: There is no survivor of Abd al-Rahman bin Khalid. Then al-Muhajir bin Khaled entered Damascus in hiding, he and a boy of his.
He spotted the doctor. He left at night from Muawiyah, so al-Muhajir went to him. This story is well-known among the people of travel, as Abu Omar said.
