Abaydh ibn Hammal ibn Marthad ibn Dhi Lahyan (with a damma over the L) 'Amir ibn Dhi al-'Anbar ibn Mu'adh ibn Sharhabeel ibn Ma'dan ibn Malik ibn Zayd ibn Sadd ibn Sa'd ibn 'Awf ibn 'Adi ibn Malik ibn Zayd ibn Sadd ibn Zur'a ibn Sabä' al-Asghar ibn Ka'b ibn al-Adhruh ibn Sadd.
He was related by the genealogist al-Hamdani as this, and he is Abaydh al-Ma'ribi al-Sabä'i.
Ibrahim ibn Muhammad and Ismail ibn Ali and 'Ubayd Allah Abu Ja'far informed us, by their chain of narration, from Abu 'Isa al-Tirmidhi, who said: Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: Mahmud ibn Yahya ibn Qays al-Ma'ribi narrated to us, he said: My father informed me, from Thumamah ibn Sharahil, from Sumayy ibn Qays, from Shumayr, from Abaydh ibn Hammal: That he came as a delegate to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him to grant him the salt [mines] which are in Ma'rib, and he granted them to him. When he turned to leave, a man said: O Messenger of Allah, do you know what you have granted to him? You have only granted him the water cistern. So he took it back from him.
And from his hadith as well: That he asked the Prophet ﷺ about what to protect from the Arak, he said: What the hooves of the camels cannot reach.
