Biography of al-Arqam an-Nakh'i
s: Al-Arqam an-Nakh'i, and his name is: Aws ibn Jahsh ibn Yazid an-Nakh'i.
Abu Musa informed us, by permission, and he said: Abu 'Ali al-Haddad informed us, by permission, from the book of Abu Ahmad al-'Attar, 'Umar ibn Ahmad ibn 'Uthman informed us, 'Umar ibn al-Hasan ibn Malik informed us, al-Munzir al-Qabusi informed us, al-Husayn informed us, Yahya ibn Zakariya ibn Ibrahim ibn Suwayd an-Nakh'i informed us, from al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam an-Nakh'i, from 'Abd ar-Rahman ibn 'Abis an-Nakh'i, from Qays ibn Ka'b, that he came as a delegation to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Nakh', his brother Artatah ibn Ka'b ibn Sharahil and Al-Arqam, and his name is: Aws ibn Jahsh ibn Yazid, and they were among the most handsome and cleanest people of their time, so he invited them to Islam, and they accepted Islam, and he was amazed by what he saw in them, so he said: Did you leave behind you people like you?, He said: O Messenger of Allah, we left behind seventy people from our people, they do not share with us in the matter when it occurs, so he invoked good for them, and wrote a letter to Artatah and assigned a banner to him, and he witnessed with that banner the day of al-Qadisiyyah, and he was killed, and his brother Zayd took the banner and was killed, then his brother Qays ibn Ka'b took it, and the Messenger of Allah said: O Allah, bless Nakh' and invoke good for them.
Ibn 'Abis said: And my father informed me, from Zurah, from Qays ibn Ka'b, that he came as a delegation to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and accepted Islam, and he wrote a letter to him, and mentioned it, Abu Musa mentioned it as it was missed by Ibn Manda, and Ibn Habib, from Ibn al-Kalbi, mentioned his lineage, but did not name Al-Arqam Aws, but said: And Bkr ibn 'Awf ibn Nakh' begot Malik and as-Shatan and Musawir, and from them is Al-Arqam, and he is Jahsh ibn Yazid ibn Malik ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Nasi ibn Yasir ibn Jushm ibn Malik ibn Bkr, who came as a delegation to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
This is strengthened by the fact that Ibn Manda mentioned Jahsh ibn Aws an-Nakh'i, and it will be mentioned in its chapter, if Allah wills.
Abu Musa brought it out.
