Biography of Aws ibn Thabit
Aws ibn Thabit ibn al-Mundhir ibn Harim ibn Amr ibn Zayd Manat ibn Adi ibn Amr ibn Malik ibn al-Najjar ibn Tha'laba ibn Amr ibn al-Khazraj al-Ansari al-Khazraji al-Bakhari, brother of Hassan ibn Thabit the poet, witnessed the Battle of Aqaba and Badr.
Ibn Mandah said: Aws ibn Thabit ibn al-Mundhir ibn Harim, from the Banu Amr ibn Malik ibn al-Najjar.
He said: And others said: from the Banu Amr ibn Zayd ibn Manat ibn Adi ibn Amr ibn Malik ibn al-Najjar, so he thought that this was a difference in lineage, but it is not so, for his saying in the first place: from the Banu Amr ibn Zayd Manat, is Amr the first, and his saying: from the Banu Amr ibn Malik ibn al-Najjar, is Amr the last, and he is the ancestor of the first, and whoever saw the lineage we mentioned first knew that there was no difference between the two sayings.
Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Umar al-Ansari said: Aws was killed on the Day of Uhud.
Al-Waqidi said: He witnessed Badr, Uhud, the Battle of the Trench, and all the battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he died in the caliphate of Uthman in Medina.
Abu Umar said: In my opinion, the saying is that of Abd Allah, and Allah knows best.
Ibn Ishaq said: He witnessed Badr, and was killed on the Day of Uhud, and he did not leave any offspring, and it is said that he was buried, and in the verse of his wife: ﴿For men is a share of what parents and close relatives leave behind, and for women is a share of what parents and close relatives leave behind. Whether it be a little or much - there is a half of everything -
They all agreed on this.
I said: I have mentioned this story in the biography of Khalid ibn Arfata, and we discussed the saying about it there.
