Biography of Habis ibn Sa'd

Habis ibn Sa'd, and it is said: the son of Rabi'a ibn al-Mundhir ibn Sa'd ibn Yathribi ibn Abd ibn Qusayy ibn Qamran ibn Tha'laba ibn Amr ibn Tha'laba ibn Hayyan ibn Jurm, and he is Tha'laba ibn Amr ibn al-Ghuth ibn Tayy al-Ta'i.

He is counted among the people of Homs.

We were informed by Abu Yasir ibn Abu Habba, in his chain of narration to Abdullah ibn Ahmad, that my father told me: Abu al-Mughira told us: Hariz ibn Uthman al-Rahbi told us:

I heard Abdullah ibn Ghabir al-Ahni, that:

Habis ibn Sa'd al-Ta'i entered the mosque in the early morning, and he caught up with the Prophet ﷺ. He saw the people praying in the front of the mosque, so he said: The pretenders, so he said: Drive them out, and whoever drives them out has obeyed Allah and His Messenger. So the people came and drove them out, and he said: And he said: Indeed, the angels pray in the early morning in the front of the mosque. And Abu Umar said: He is known in the people of Sham as the Yemeni, and he said: Indeed, the people of knowledge know the news, and they said: Indeed, Umar ibn al-Khattab called Habis ibn Sa'd al-Ta'i, and he said: I want to entrust to you the judgment of Homs, so how will you act? He said: I will exert my judgment and consult with my companions, so he said: Go, and he did not go except a short distance until he returned, and he said: O Amir al-Mu'minin, I saw a dream, so I wanted to narrate it to you, so he said: Narrate it to me, and he said: I saw as if the sun came from the east, and with it a great gathering of angels, and as if the moon came from the west, and with it a great gathering of stars, so Omar said to him:

With which of them were you?

He said: With the moon, so Omar said: You were with the erased sign, no by Allah, do not do anything for me ever, and he returned him, so he witnessed Siffin with Muawiya, and with him was the banner of Tayyi', so he was killed that day, and he was the uncle of Adi ibn Hatim, and the uncle of his son Zayd, and Zayd was killed, and he fought him in betrayal, so his father Adi ibn Hatim swore to avenge him, so he fled to Muawiya, and his news is well-known among the people of news.

It was narrated by the three (Ibn Manda, Abū Nuʿaym, Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr), and it is reported from several narrators.
