Biography of Hibban

Haban with a hamza on the ha and ba, and a nun at the end, is Haban ibn Manqadh ibn Amr ibn Atiyya ibn Khansa ibn Mabdhul ibn Amr ibn Ghanm ibn Mazin ibn al-Najjar al-Ansari al-Khazraji al-Mazni. He was a companion, and witnessed the Battle of Badr and what followed. He married the younger Zaynab, daughter of Rabi'a ibn al-Harith ibn Abd al-Muttalib, and she gave birth to Yahya ibn Haban and Wasit ibn Haban. He is the grandfather of Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Haban, the sheikh of Malik.

It was said to him by the Prophet ﷺ: When you send a message, say: 'There is no deception.' He had a heavy tongue, and when he bought something, he would say: 'There is no deception.' This was because he would deceive in his sales due to his weakness of mind. He died during the caliphate of Uthman.

He was narrated by the three.
