Biography of Ibrahim ibn Rasul Allah
Ibrahim ibn Rasul Allah ﷺ, his mother was Mariyah al-Qibtiyah. She was a gift from al-Muqawqis, the ruler of Alexandria, along with her sister Sirin.
The Prophet ﷺ gave Sirin to Hassan ibn Thabit, and she gave birth to 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hassan. Therefore, Ibrahim and 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hassan were maternal half-brothers.
Ibrahim was born in Dhu al-Hijjah, 8 AH. The Prophet ﷺ was very pleased with his birth. He was born in al-'Aliyah, and his birth was attended by Salma, the Prophet's ﷺ freed slave, who was also the wife of Abu Rafi'. Abu Rafi' informed the Prophet ﷺ, who then gave him a slave. On the seventh day, the Prophet ﷺ performed the 'aqiqah ceremony for Ibrahim, shaved his hair, and gave him his name. He also distributed charity and buried his hair.
The Prophet ﷺ handed Ibrahim over to Umm Sif, the wife of: Abu Sif, a blacksmith in Medina, to be breastfed.
Abu al-Fadl al-Mansur ibn Abi al-Hasan ibn 'Abdullah al-Tabari al-Makhzumi al-Dini reported to us, with a chain of narration to Abu Ya'la Ahmad ibn 'Ali, who said: Shayban and Hudbah ibn Khalid told us, who said: Sulaiman ibn al-Mughirah told us, who said: Thabit told us, from Anas, who said: The Prophet ﷺ said: Tonight, I have been given a son, and I have named him Ibrahim, after my father. Then he handed him over to Umm Sif, the wife of a blacksmith in Medina.
In another narration by Shayban, it is mentioned: The Prophet ﷺ went with his son, and I followed him. We arrived at Abu Sif's place, and he was blowing on his bellows. The house was filled with smoke, so I quickened my pace in front of the Prophet ﷺ until we reached Abu Sif. I said: O Abu Sif, stop! The Prophet ﷺ has arrived. He stopped and called out, and the Prophet ﷺ hugged him and said what he wanted.
In another narration by Hudbah, it is mentioned: The Prophet's ﷺ eyes were tearful.
Ibrahim died when he was 18 months old, according to al-Waqidi, or 16 months and 8 days, according to Muhammad ibn Mu'ammal al-Makhzumi.
The Prophet ﷺ performed the funeral prayer for him and said: We will bury him near our companion 'Uthman ibn Maz'un, in al-Baqi'.
Jabir reported that the Prophet ﷺ took 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf's hand and went with him to the palm tree. There, he found his son Ibrahim in his mother's lap, struggling to breathe. The Prophet ﷺ took him and put him on his lap, then said: O Ibrahim, we cannot do anything for you before Allah. My eyes welled up with tears, then he said: O Ibrahim, were it not for the fact that it is a decree from Allah and a promise from Him, and that the first of us will meet the last of us, we would grieve for you more than this. And we are grieving for you, O Ibrahim. The eyes shed tears, and the heart grieves, but we only say what pleases our Lord.
Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Qahir al-Tusi reported to us, with a chain of narration to Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, from Shuba, from 'Adi ibn Thabit, who said: I heard al-Bara' say: The Prophet ﷺ said when Ibrahim died: He has a wet nurse in Paradise.
When Ibrahim died, it happened that the sun was eclipsed that day. Some people said: The sun was eclipsed because of his death. The Prophet ﷺ addressed them: The sun and the moon are signs from Allah; they do not become eclipsed because of someone's death or life. When you see this, hasten to remember Allah and perform prayer.
Al-Bara' reported that the Prophet ﷺ performed the funeral prayer for Ibrahim, saying the takbir four times. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars and is considered authentic.
