Biography of Ishaq al-Ghanawi

'Abdān S: Isḥāq al-Ghanawī

Abū Mūsā informed us, by permission, Abū 'Alī al-Ḥaddād informed us, Aḥmad ibn 'Abd Allāh ibn Aḥmad informed us, 'Abd Allāh ibn Ja'far informed us, Ismā'īl ibn 'Abd Allāh informed us, Mūsā ibn Ismā'īl informed us.

He said: Abū Mūsā also informed us, Ismā'īl ibn al-Faḍl ibn al-Ikhshīd informed us, and the wording is his, Abū Ṭāhir ibn 'Abd al-Raḥīm informed us, Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn 'Alī informed us, Aḥmad ibn 'Alī ibn al-Muthannā informed us, Abū Khaythamah informed us, Yūnus ibn Muḥammad informed us, they said: Bashshār ibn 'Abd al-Malik al-Muzanī informed us, his grandmother Umm Ḥakīm bint Dīnār al-Muzanīyah told him, on the authority of her slave lady Umm Isḥāq al-Ghanawīyah: That she migrated from Makkah intending to go to al-Madīnah, she and her brother, until when they were on some part of the road, her brother said to her: O Umm Isḥāq, sit down until I return to Makkah to take some provision that I forgot, she said: I fear for you from the Fāsiq meaning your husband, that he might kill you. So her brother went to Makkah and left her, and a rider passed by her after three days, and said: O Umm Isḥāq, what makes you sit here? She said: I am waiting for my brother Isḥāq, he said: There is no Isḥāq for you, your Fāsiq husband overtook him after he left Makkah and killed him, she said: So I stood up, and I was recalling and crying, until I entered al-Madīnah, and the Prophet of Allāh ﷺ was in the house of his wife Ḥafṣah bint 'Umar, and he was sitting performing wudu', so I said: O Messenger of Allāh, with my father and mother,

my brother Isḥāq was killed, and I looked at him intensely while he was performing wudu', then I was careless in looking at him, and he took a handful of water and hit me with it, and her granddaughter said: Indeed, great afflictions would befall her after the death of the Prophet ﷺ, and she would see tears rolling down her cheeks, but nothing would flow from her face.

This is a famous hadith from the hadith of Bashshār, narrated by Abū 'Āṣim, 'Abd al-Ṣamad ibn 'Abd al-Wārith, and others.

Reported by Abū Nu'aym and Abū Mūsā.
