Isma'il az-Zaydi

s: Isma'il al-Zaydi was mentioned by Abu Musa as a supplement to Ibn Manda, and he said: If his account is authentic.

Abu Musa informed us, with permission, Abu Sa'd Muhammad ibn Abi 'Abd Allah al-Ma'dani informed us, Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn 'Ali informed us, Ahmad ibn Musa informed us, and he said: Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Husayn informed me, Ahmad ibn 'Amr al-Dibaqi informed us, 'Abd Allah ibn Shabiib reported to me, Harun ibn Yahya ibn Harun, the son of Hatib ibn Abi Balt'ah, reported to me, Zakariya ibn Isma'il al-Zaydi, the son of Zayd ibn Thabit, reported on the authority of his father, who said: We went out as a group of Companions, one morning, with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, until we stood at a gathering place of roads, when a bedouin appeared, dragging the bones of a camel, until he stood before the Messenger of Allah, and said: How are you, my dear Prophet? The Messenger of Allah replied: I praise Allah to you, and then he mentioned the hadith regarding the virtue of praying for the Prophet ﷺ.

Abu Musa said: Isma'il ibn Zayd reports on the authority of his father, but I do not know if he had a meeting with the Prophet. He also reports this hadith on the authority of al-Thawri, 'Amr ibn Dinar, Nafi', and Ibn 'Umar.

I say: This Isma'il ibn Zayd ibn Thabit reports on the authority of his father, who was a tabi'i, and his report is not considered. The tabi'un were continuously reporting mursal hadiths. One of the things that supports that he did not have a meeting with the Prophet is that his father Zayd ibn Thabit was considered young during the Battle of Uhud, which took place in the year 3 AH. A person of such age would not say that he went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. This is only said by someone who ... and it is reported on the authority of Ibn Mas'ud that he said: When Zayd wrote the mushaf, I had already become a Muslim, and he was in the loins of a disbelieving man. This also indicates that he was young when the Prophet ﷺ passed away. Abu Musa mentioned it.
