Biography of Isma'il
d ': Isma'il was a companion of the Prophet, and he resided in Basra, if his account is preserved.
Abu al-Faraj Yahya ibn Mahmud al-Asfahani informed us, Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Ahmad, and I was present, informed us, Abu Nu'aym al-Hafiz informed us, Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Ishaq al-Mawsili informed us, Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Muthanna informed us, Ja'far ibn 'Awn informed us, Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid reported on the authority of Abu Bakr ibn 'Umarah ibn Ruwaybah, on the authority of his father, who said: A shaykh from the people of Basra came to my father, and said: Inform us of what you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: I heard him say: No man will enter Hell who prayed before sunrise and before sunset.
The shaykh then said: Did you hear this directly from the Messenger of Allah? He replied: My ears heard it, and my heart understood it, then the shaykh said: I also heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say what you said, but no one else agreed with me on this.
This hadith was also reported by Shu'bah, al-Thawri, and Zaidah, on the authority of Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid.
