Biography of Iyas ibn Rabab
D: Iyas b. Rabbah al-Muzani, the grandfather of Mu'awiya b. Qarrah.
Yusuf b. al-Mubarak reported from Ibn Idris, from Khalid b. Abi Kuraibah, from Mu'awiya b. Qarrah, from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ sent his grandfather, the grandfather of Mu'awiya, to a man who had married a woman related to his father. He struck his neck and took five of his properties.
Ibn Mandah said: This is a strange tradition from this point of view.
He said: Yahya b. Ma'in said: This is sound, Ibn Idris used to attribute it to some people and send it to others.
It was reported by Ibn Mandah.
Abu Nai'm said in the biography of Iyas b. Mu'awiya al-Muzani, with his chain of transmission from Abdullah b. al-Waddah, from Abdullah b. Idris, from Khalid, from Mu'awiya b. Qarrah, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him to a man who had married a woman related to his father. He killed him and took five of his properties. Abu Nai'm brought this tradition in the biography of Iyas b. Mu'awiya b. Qarrah.
He said: Some later transmitters reported this tradition from Yusuf b. al-Mubarak, from Ibn Idris, from Khalid, from Mu'awiya b. Qarrah, from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ sent his grandfather to a man who had married a woman related to his father. He made him stay in the biography of Iyas b. Rabbah, the grandfather of Mu'awiya b. Qarrah, and the grandfather of Mu'awiya is Iyas b. Hala b. Rabbah. He mentioned his grandfather in this tradition without following him.
I said: The correct version is what Abu Nai'm said, for Iyas b. Mu'awiya b. Qarrah b. Iyas b. Hala b. Rabbah b. Ubayd b. Suwayqah b. Sariyah b. Dhubyah b. Mahrah b. Salim b. Aus b. 'Amr b. Ad, and 'Uthman was his son, and Aus was the son of 'Amr, and they were Muzani. They were named after their mother, Muzayna bint al-Kalb b. Wabra.
