Biography of Iyas ibn Thalaba
Iyas b. Tha'laba Abu 'Ammara al-Ansari al-Harithi, one of the Banu al-Harith b. al-Khazraj, and it was said: he was a Balawi, and he was a client of the Banu Haritha, and he was the son of his aunt Abu Burda b. Ni'ar.
He was narrated from by his son 'Abd Allah, and Mahmud b. Labid, and 'Abd Allah b. Ka'b b. Malik.
Abd al-Malik b. Ka'b narrated from his brother 'Abd Allah b. Ka'b, from Abu 'Ammara, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever takes the wealth of a Muslim by his right hand is forbidden from Paradise, and it is obligatory for him to enter the Fire, they said: even if it is a small amount? He said: even if it is a stick from a reed.
He was also narrated from by his son 'Abd Allah, and Mahmud b. Labid, from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: 'The smallest amount of faith is better than the largest amount of disbelief.' He died while the Prophet ﷺ was returning from the Battle of Uhud, so the Prophet ﷺ prayed over him.
I said: A narration from one who narrated from him is marfu', for 'Abd Allah b. Ka'b did not live to see the Prophet ﷺ, and as for Mahmud b. Labid, he was born after the death of Iyas, according to the statement of one who says: he was killed on the Day of Uhud, and as for 'Abd Allah b.
