Biography of Jabal ibn Jawal
B: Jabala ibn Jawwal ibn Safwan ibn Bilal ibn Asram ibn Iyas ibn Abd Ghannam ibn Jahash ibn Bujalah ibn Muzayn ibn Tha'laba ibn Sa'd ibn Dhubyani al-Shaybani then al-Tha'alibi. He was mentioned by Ibn Ishaq.
We were informed by Abu Ja'far Ubayd Allah ibn Ali ibn Ali, in his chain of transmission, from Yunus ibn Bukayr, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Then they besieged them, meaning: the Banu Qurayza, and imprisoned them. He mentioned the story of their killing, and said: Jabala ibn Jawwal al-Tha'alibi, as Yunus said:
By Allah, Ibn Akhtab did not reproach himself … but he who abandons Allah will be abandoned.
He said: Some people say that Hayy ibn Akhtab said this, and Hisham ibn al-Kalbi attributed it to him, similar to the lineage we mentioned, and said: He was a Jew who converted to Islam, and Hayy ibn Akhtab mourned him.
Abu al-Qasim al-Darqutni and Abu Nasr, and their transmitters, said: He had a companionship.
His name is Jabala, and it ends with a lam. He was mentioned by Abu 'Umar.
