Biography of Rafi' ibn al-Mu'alla ibn Ludhan
B. 'U. S.: Rafi' b. al-Mu'alla b. Lu'than b. Haritha b. 'Adi b. Zayd b. Tha'laba b. Zayd manat b. Habib b. 'Abd al-Haritha b. Malik b. Ghadib b. Jishm b. al-Khazraj as many of them attributed to Abu 'Umar.
And Hisham al-Kalbi said: Lu'than b. Haritha b. Zayd b. Tha'laba b. 'Adi b. Malik b. Zayd manat b. Habib.
They agreed.
He witnessed Badr, and was killed on that day, killed by 'Akrama b. Abi Jahl.
And Musa b. 'Uqba said: Rafi' b. al-Mu'alla, and his brother Hilaal b. al-Mu'alla witnessed Badr, as Abu 'Umar said.
And Abu Na'im said: Ibn Ishaq and 'Urwah said in the naming of those who witnessed Badr, and were killed thereby:
Rafi' b. al-Mu'alla b. Lu'than from the Ansar, from Banu Habib b. 'Abd al-Haritha b. Malik b. Ghadib b. Jishm b. al-Khazraj.
And Ibn Shahab said in the naming of those who witnessed Badr, and were killed thereby from the Ansar, from the Aws, from Banu Zariq: Rafi' b. al-Mu'alla.
Abu 'Umar said: And some people claimed that he was Abu Sa'id b. al-Mu'alla who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ the hadith about Umm al-Qur'an, that it was not mentioned in the Torah nor in the Injil like it, he said: And whoever said this was mistaken, and Rafi' was not that one, God knows best.
And Abu Sa'id b. al-Mu'alla narrated from 'Ubaid b. Hinnan, and where is this one from that one...
And the name of Abu Sa'id b. al-Mu'alla: al-Harith b. Nafi', as Khali'fa said, the speech of Abu 'Umar ended here.
And as for Ibn Mandah, he did not mention this one who was killed at Badr.
And as for the saying of Ibn Shahab: He was killed at Badr from the Ansar from the Aws, then from Banu Zariq, Rafi' b. al-Mu'alla, there is a discrepancy in it, for Banu Zariq are from al-Khazraj, and they are not from the Aws, by the agreement of all of them.
He was narrated by Abu Na'im, and Abu 'Umar, and Abu Musa, except that Abu Musa said: It was said: Zariq, and it was said: from Banu 'Abd al-Haritha, so whoever sees it as a difference, it is not like that, for Zariq is the son of 'Abd al-Haritha, and if he had said: from Banu Habib b. 'Abd al-Haritha, it would have been better, as in the first genealogy, God knows best.
