Biography of Sa'd ibn al-Atul
S: Sa'd b. al-Atwal al-Juhni, he is Sa'd b. al-Atwal b. 'Abd Allah b. Khalid b. Wahb b. Ghayth b. 'Abd Allah b. Suhay'ah b. 'Adi b. 'Awf b. Ghatafan b. Qays b. Jahina, as Khalifa b. Khayyat has narrated his lineage, he is known as Abu Matar, he resided in Basra, Abu Nadra narrated from him.
We were informed by Abu al-Fadl b. Abu al-Hasan b. Abu 'Abd Allah al-Faqih, and in his chain of transmission to Abu Ya'la Ahmad b. 'Ali, he said: Our informant was 'Abd al-A'la b. Hamid, who informed us that Hammad b. Salama had informed him that 'Abd al-Malik Abu Ja'far had informed him from Abu Nadra, from Sa'd b. al-Atwal, that his brother had died, and left behind 300 dirhams and a family, so I intended to spend it on his family, so the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Indeed your brother is imprisoned due to his debt, so pay it off for him', so I paid it off for him, and he said: O Messenger of Allah, I have paid it off for him except for a woman who claimed two dinars, and there is no clear evidence for her, so the Prophet said: 'Give it to her, for indeed she is truthful.'
It was narrated by Ibn Mandah, and Abu Nu'aym
