Biography of Thabit ibn ar-Rabi'
S: Thabit b. al-Rabi' was mentioned by Abdan, in his chain of transmission from Yazid b. Abi Habib, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon Thabit b. al-Rabi', who was at the point of death, and called out to him, but he did not respond.
So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wept and said: 'If he had heard me, he would have responded.' There was no hair on him that did not have a sign of the pain of death on it. The women wept, and Usama b. Zayd forbade them, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Let them weep as long as they are between their veils, but if it is time for them to be veiled, then let them not hear the sound of a weeping woman.'
This was related by Abdan, and the hadith is well-known from the narration of Jabir, or Jibril b. 'Atik, and it mentions that the deceased was 'Abd Allah b. Thabit.
It was narrated by Abu Musa.
