Thabit ibn Rafi'

Dhahabi: Thabit b. Rafi' and it is said: Rafi' al-Ansari.

He resided in Basra, then moved to Egypt, and Thabit was unique in narrating from him, al-Hasan.

Abu 'Umar said: Al-Hasan and the people of Sham narrated from him, al-Hasan narrated that he was appointed on expeditions.

He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Beware of ghulul, a woman is married before she is divorced, then she returns to her husband, or a man wears a garment until he has worn it out and then returns it to his wife.'

It was narrated by the three (Ibn Manda, Abū Nuʿaym, Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr), except that Abu Nu'aym said: Thabit b. Rafi', and Ibn Mandah said: Thabit b. Rafi', and Abu 'Umar said: Thabit b. Rafi', and it was said: Thabit b. Rafi'.

I said: Some scholars mentioned Thabit b. Rafi', and mentioned what preceded, and he said: This is a corrupted mushaf, and Abu Sa'id b. Yunus in the history of the Egyptians said: Thabit b. Rafi' b. Thabit b. al-Sakan al-Ansari, he narrated from Ibn Abi Malikah al-Balawi.

Yazid b. Abu Habib narrated from him, and al-Hasan al-Basri narrated from Thabit b. Rafi' from the people of Egypt, he was appointed on expeditions: the prohibition of ghulul, and he said: I think he is Thabit b. Rafi' b. Thabit, and his father: Rafi' b. Thabit, and he is the one who narrated from him, al-Hasan.

He said: And Abu Sa'id is more knowledgeable about the people of his land and more accurate, and most of the imams refer to him in the history of the Egyptians, and this is his statement, if Thabit b. Rafi' is not as mentioned, then no one knows who he is, and Allah knows best.
