Biography of Thabit ibn Tarif
D'Ohsson: Thabit b. Tarif al-Muradi then al-'Arni witnessed the conquest of Egypt and other regions, met the Prophet ﷺ, narrated from Abu Salim al-Jishani, mentioned by Ibn Mandah, from Ibn Yunus b. Abd al-A'la, said: Thabit b. Tarif al-Muradi, then al-'Arni witnessed the conquest of Egypt, and other regions, from the Arabs, had companionship, for when the Arabs returned to Islam after apostasy, Abu Bakr and Umar ﵄ called them to jihad, so the Arabs went to Syria, Iraq, and those who went to Syria went to Egypt after its conquest, and they conquered it, so among them were those with companionship, and among them were those without companionship, and if they had lived during the pre-Islamic era, then whoever witnessed the conquests during the time of Abu Bakr and Umar had lived during the pre-Islamic era, for the last years of Umar were approximately thirteen years after the death of the Prophet ﷺ, so whoever fought during their time was old during the life of the Prophet ﷺ, and God knows best, so Abu Nu'aym relied on Ibn Mandah, said: mentioned al-Hakki, from Abu Sa'id: that he was a companion, and that he had lived during the pre-Islamic era.
