Biography of Thabit ibn Waqsh

S: Thabit ibn Qush ibn Zaurah al-Ansari, as some have narrated, and Abu Nai'm.

Said Abu Umar: Thabit ibn Qush ibn Zughbah ibn Zaurah ibn Abd al-Ashhal, adding to the lineage: Zughbah, which is correct, and similar to this, Abu al-Kalbi said.

He was martyred at Uhud, the Prophet ﷺ placed him among the elderly, and Husayl ibn Jabir, Abu Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman, when they set out for Uhud, and they were two elderly men, one of them said to his companion: What are we waiting for? By God, we are but a burden today or tomorrow, so if we were to go out, would we not take our swords, then join the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, perhaps Allah will grant us martyrdom? So they took their swords and entered the people, without being recognized, as for Thabit: the polytheists killed him, and as for Husayl: the Muslims' swords were divided over him, and they did not know him, so they killed him.

Abu Nai'm and Ibn Manda said this.

As for Abu Musa, he corrected Ibn Manda, saying: Thabit, and Rafi'ah, the sons of Qush ibn Zughbah ibn Zaurah ibn Abd al-Ashhal, were killed on the Day of Uhud, and with them, Salama and 'Amr, the sons of Thabit, Abu Musa said: Ibn Shahin distinguished between Thabit ibn Qush, this one, and Thabit ibn Qush ibn Zaurah.

Abu Musa and the three others narrated this.
