Biography of Umayyah ibn Sa'd al-Qurashi
S: Umayya b. Sa'd al-Qurashi was authenticated by Abu Musa on the authority of Ibn Mandah, who said: Abu Zakariya, meaning: Ibn Mandah, transmitted it in what he authenticated on the authority of his grandfather, who said: He was one of the seventy who pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) under the tree, and he was the grandfather of Sulayman b. Khatir. It was transmitted by Muhammad b. Hamdawayh in the History of Marw, in those who brought it from the Companions.
Abu Musa said: Abu Zakariya informed us, in his book, that my uncle, the Imam, informed us, that Abu Ali Muhammad b. Ahmad b. al-Husayn informed us, that Abu Ishaq Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Abbas b. Ishaq informed us, that Abu Rajaa Muhammad b. Hamdawayh al-Sinji informed us, that Abdullah al-Hajjaji informed us, that Khalaf b. Amir informed us, from Fadl b. Sahl, from Nasr b. Ata al-Wasiti, from Hammam, from Qatada, from Ata, from Umayya al-Qurashi, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: When my messengers come to you, give them such and such a coat of armor, or he said: a camel, I said: And what about the saddle? He said: Yes.
Abu Musa said: He translated and transmitted it, who said: And Abu Mansur Mahmud b. Ismail al-Sayrafi informed us, eleven hundred years ago, that Abu Bakr Muhammad b. Abdullah b. Shadhan al-Adib informed us, that Abu Bakr Abdullah b. Muhammad al-Qabbab informed us, that Abu Bakr Ahmad b. Amr b. Abu Asim informed us, that Fadl b. Sahl informed us, with his transmitted chain up to Ata, and he said: From Ya'la b. Safwan b. Umayya, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said the same.
Abu Musa said: And Hibban b. Hilal transmitted it from Hammam, and the hadith is well-preserved from Safwan b. Umayya.
And it is transmitted from Umayya b. Safwan, from his father, that the speech of Abu Musa ended.
