Biography of Usayd ibn Abi Anas
S: Usayd also with a fatha, and he is Usayd ibn Abi Anas ibn Zanim ibn Amr ibn Abd Allah ibn Jaber ibn Mahamiyah ibn Ubaid ibn Adi ibn ad-Dil ibn Bakr ibn Abd Manat ibn Kananah ibn Khuzaymah ibn Mudrikah ibn Ilyas ibn Mudar, al-Kanani ad-Duli al-Adawi, and he is the brother of Sariyah ibn Zan im who was called by Umar ibn al-Khattab while he was on the minbar.
Abu Ahmad al-Askari said: Usayd with a kasra on the sin, and from them is Usayd ibn Abi Anas, and he is Usayd ibn Zan im, so according to this he is the brother of Sariyah.
Usayd was a poet, and the Prophet ﷺ allowed his blood to be shed.
Ibn Abbas said: When the delegation of Banu Adi ibn ad-Dil came to the Prophet ﷺ, among them were al-Harith ibn Wahb, and Uwair ibn al-Akhram, and Habib, and Rabi'ah ibn Maslamah, and a group of their people, and they asked him not to fight them, and not to fight with him against Quraysh, and they dissociated themselves from Usayd ibn Abi Anas, and they said: He has reached out to you, so the Prophet ﷺ allowed his blood to be shed, and when Usayd knew that, he went to at-Ta'if, and when it was the year of the conquest, Sariyah ibn Zan im went out to at-Ta'if, and informed Usayd of that, and took him and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, and he sat before him and became Muslim, so the Prophet ﷺ secured him and massaged his face and chest, and he said:
And you are the youth who guides Ma'ad to her religion… Nay, Allah guides her
And recite: Ashhad
I have not carried on a she-camel's back except a strong and submissive one… More noble and more loyal than Muhammad
And I clothed the cold-shouldered Khal before he disengaged… And I gave to the head of the spear the privilege
You know, O Messenger of Allah, that you are capable… Of every arrogant and insolent and proud
You know that the riders are the riders of Uwair… They are the liars, who break every promise
Do they inform the Messenger of Allah that they have mocked him?… I would not have raised my whip to my hand
Except that I have said: Woe to a group… They were afflicted with misfortune and not with good fortune and happiness
And it is more than that.
When he recited: And you are the youth who guides Ma'ad to her religion
