Biography of Zubab ibn al-Harith
S: Dhubbab b. al-Harith b. 'Amr b. Mu'awiya b. al-Harith b. Rabi'a b. Bilal b. Anas Allah b. Sa'd al-Ash'ari.
Dhubbab was mentioned by Ibn Shahin in the Sahaba, and by Abu 'Abd Allah b. Mandah in Dalail al-Nubuwwa.
Yahya b. Hani' b. 'Urwah al-Maradi reported from Abu Khuthayma 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Subrah al-Ja'fi, who said: Sa'd al-Ash'ari had an idol, called Faras, which they revered. Its custodian was a man from Anas Allah b. Sa'd al-Ash'ari, called Ibn Riqbiya, or Waqshi.
Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Subrah said: Dhubbab b. al-Harith, a man from Anas Allah, told me: Ibn Riqbiya, or Waqshi, had a jinni who would inform him of future events. One day, the jinni took him something, and he looked at it, saying: O Dhubbab, O Dhubbab, listen to the astonishing news! Muhammad has been sent with a book, calling to Mecca, but it is not being answered.
I said to him: What is this? He said: I do not know, I was told so.
It was not long before I heard about the departure of the Messenger of Allah, so I converted and rushed to the idol, breaking it. Then I went to the Prophet and converted.
Dhubbab also said:
I followed the Messenger of Allah when he came with the guidance … and left the idol in the house of Hawan
I pressed it hard, and it broke … as if it had never existed, and time had no beginning
And this is more than that.
