Biography of Zuhayr ibn Abi Umayyah
D: Zuhayr b. Abi Umayyah narrated from al-Sa'ib b. Yazid, as Ibn Mandah said, and he narrated from Israel, from Ibrahim b. Muhajir, from Mujahid, said: Uthman b. Affan and Zuhayr b. Abi Umayyah came to seek permission from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they praised him, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I know him better than you both... . . . .'
Then the hadith was mentioned, and Ibn Mandah alone narrated it.
I said: Ibn Mandah made two biographies, this one and the previous one, and they are one, there is no doubt about it, and it is not ambiguous, so he has one lineage, one chain of transmission, and one hadith, so I do not know why he separated them, if he had disagreed about some things, it would have been excusable, and Allah knows best.
