Asla' ibn Sharik

Asla' ibn Sharik ibn 'Awf al-A'wajī al-Tamīmī was a servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the companion of his mount.

He settled in Basra.

Zirq al-Malikī al-Madlijī reported from him, from the Prophet, but there is some scrutiny regarding it. He was also a brother in faith to Abū Mūsā.

The 'Alā' ibn Abī Suwayya reported, from al-Haytham ibn Zirq al-Malikī, from his father, from Asla' ibn Sharik, who said: I used to tend to the Prophet's ﷺ she-camel, and one cold night I was in a state of major ritual impurity (janābah), so I feared taking a cold bath lest I die or fall ill. I disliked riding with the Prophet while I was in that state, so I said: O Messenger of Allah, I have been in a state of major ritual impurity, he replied: Perform tayammum, O Asla'. I asked: How? He then struck the ground with his hand twice: once on the face and once on the hands up to the elbows.
