Biography of Aslam
S: Aslam, whose mention was last reported by Abū Mūsá, who said: It was reported by Abdān al-Maruzi, and he said: I do not know of him being mentioned or his lineage except in this hadith, and it is possible that Aslam refers to a tribe, which seems more likely, and he said: meaning Abdān.
We were informed by Bundār and Abū Mūsá, who said: We were informed by Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar, who informed us that Shuʿba reported from Qaṭāda, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Minhāl ibn Salamah al-Khuzaʿī, from his uncle, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Aslam: Fast this day, they said: We have already eaten, he said: Fast the rest of the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ.
Abū Mūsá said: This is a preserved hadith with this chain of narration, and it is understood from it that Aslam refers to a tribe, as indicated by his statement: They said: We have already eaten.
It has also been reported from the hadith of Asmāʾ ibn Ḥārithah and others that the Prophet ﷺ sent someone to Aslam to command them to fast the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ.
I said: The correct view is that of Abū Mūsá, and it is surprising that Abdān was confused about it despite its clarity, and if we were not conditioned to not leave out a translation that they extracted, we would have left this and similar ones.
Reported by Abū Mūsá.
