Biography of Asmar ibn Mudris
Asmar ibn Mudarris al-Ta'i
We were informed by Abū Aḥmad ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿAlī al-Amīn, with his chain of narration to Abū Dāwūd al-Sijistānī, who said: We were narrated by Muḥammad ibn Bishār, who narrated to me ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who narrated to me Umm al-Janūb bint Numaylah, from her mother Suwāydah bint Jābir, from her mother ʿAqīlah bint Asmar ibn Mudarris, who said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ and gave him my pledge of allegiance, and he said: Whoever precedes to something that no Muslim has preceded to, it is for him. It is said that he is the brother of ʿUrwah ibn Mudarris. His daughter ʿAqīlah narrated from him, and both of them were ʿArabīs, as stated by Abū ʿUmar.
And Ibn Mandah, and Abū Nuʿaym: said: He is Asmar ibn Abīyad ibn Mudarris, and they mentioned the hadith, but did not say: He is the brother of ʿUrwah ibn Mudarris, and Abū Nuʿaym said: He is from the ʿArabīs of Baṣrah.
Narrated by the three (Ibn Manda, Abū Nuʿaym, Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr) of them. ʿAqīlah: with the opening of the eye and the breaking of the qāf, and Numaylah: with the dam of the nūn.
