Biography of al-Harith ibn Hatib ibn al-Harith
Al-Harith ibn Hatab ibn Al-Harith ibn Mu'ammar ibn Habib ibn Wahb ibn Hudhafa ibn Jamuh Al-Qurashi Al-Jumahi and his mother: Fatimah bint Al-Majlul.
He was born in the land of Abyssinia, and he was the brother of Muhammad ibn Hatab, and Al-Harith was older, and Abdullah ibn Az-Zubair appointed Al-Harith over Mecca in the year sixty-six, and it was said: that he was in charge of the missions during the time of Marwan, when he was the governor of Medina under Mu'awiya, as Abu 'Umar, Al-Zubair ibn Bakkar, and Ibn Al-Kalbi said.
Ibn Ishaq said in the naming of those who migrated to Abyssinia from Banu Jamuh: Al-Harith ibn Hatab ibn Mu'ammar, as Ibn Mandah and Abu Na'im from Ibn Ishaq said, and the first one is more authentic.
Ibn Mandah narrated from Ibn Ishaq in this biography, he said: they claimed that Abu Lababa ibn Abd Al-Mundhir and Al-Harith ibn Hatab went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Badr, and they were sent back, and Abu Lababa was appointed over Medina, and he was struck with an arrow along with the companions of Badr.
And from his hadith:
Yahya ibn Mahmud ibn Sa'd informed us, with his isnad to Abu Bakr ibn Abu 'Asim, he said: Wahb ibn Bakayyah informed us, Khallad Al-Hadhdha' informed us, from Yusuf ibn Ya'qub, from Muhammad ibn Hatab, or Al-Harith ibn Hatab, that he mentioned Ibn Az-Zubair, he said: they both were eager for the governorship, we said: what is that? he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came with a thief, and he ordered his killing, it was said to him: indeed he stole, he said: cut off his hands, then he came to him after that to Abu Bakr, and he had stolen, and his hands had been cut off, he said: I do not find anything for you except what has been decreed for you
