Basisa ibn Amr

D: Bassisah ibn Amir was sent by the Prophet ﷺ to the tribe of Abu Sufyan.

It is narrated from Anas that the Prophet ﷺ sent Bassisah ibn Amir as a scout to the tribe of Abu Sufyan, and he came and informed him, mentioning the hadith.

It was narrated by Ibn Mandah alone, and I have seen it to be correct in three authentic manuscripts that have been transcribed, and their transcribers have confirmed it, one of which is said: to be the original of Abu Abd Allah ibn Mandah, and on it are the categories of transmission from that time until now, and they have transcribed it as Bassisah, with a dammah on the ba, a fatlah on the sin, and a yaa with two dots underneath, and it is not anything else.

I said: This is how Ibn Mandah mentioned this translation, and he thought it to be other than the first, because he did not mention in it that the Prophet ﷺ sent him as a scout, and they are one, and it was said: Bassis without the ha', and it was said: Babsah with two joined ba's, and the previous statement regarding Babs has been mentioned.

We were informed by Abu al-Faraj ibn Mahmud al-Asbahan, in his chain of narration, from Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj, that he said: We were informed by Abu Bakr ibn al-Nadr ibn Abu al-Nadr, Harun ibn Abd Allah, Muhammad ibn Rafi', and Abd ibn Humayd,
