Biography of Dhuqwan mawla al-Ansar
Dhakwan, the freed slave of the Ansar.
Abu al-Hasan al-Faqih informed us, with his isnad to Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili, said: Ja'far ibn Mihran al-Sabbak informed us, Abdullah informed us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, from Harim ibn Uthman, from Mahmud ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Amr ibn al-Jamuh, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, said: We bought a cow in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to share in its cost, but it escaped from us and refused to be handled by us. So, our mawla, known as: Dhakwan, offered to slaughter it for us with a sword in his hand, while it was roaming. He struck it with the sword at the base of its neck, and it was cut open. We did not manage to catch its blood, so I, along with Abdullah ibn Thabit ibn al-Jidh', went out to meet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned its case to him. He said: 'Eat, and if you are given any of these animals, keep it as you keep wild beasts.'
