Biography of Ruwayfi' ibn Thabit ibn Sakun
Ruwayf ibn Thabit ibn Sakan ibn Adi ibn Haritha from the Banu Malik ibn al-Najjar.
He is considered among the Egyptians, said al-Layth ibn Sa'd: In the year forty-six, Mu'awiya ordered Ruwayf ibn Thabit to be in charge of Tripoli, a city in the Maghreb. He invaded Ifriqiya in the year forty-seven.
He was narrated from: Hanash al-San'ani, Waifa ibn Sharih, Shayim ibn Baytan, and Shayban al-Qutban.
Abu Marzuk Rabi'a ibn Abu Salim, the freed slave of Abd al-Rahman ibn Hassan al-Taji, narrated that he heard Hanash al-San'ani narrate from Ruwayf ibn Thabit about his invasion of people before the Maghreb, he said: That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said in the Ghazwa of Khaybar: 'It has reached me that you are buying the mithqal for half and a third, it is not permissible to buy the mithqal except with the mithqal, and the weight with the weight.'
We were informed by Ya'ish ibn Ali ibn Sadqa Abu al-Qasim al-Faqih, with his isnad to Abu Abd al-Rahman Ahmad ibn Shu'ayb, he said: That Muhammad ibn Salama informed us, that Ibn Wahb informed us, from Haywa ibn Shurayh, and another before him, from Ayyash ibn Abbas, that Shayim ibn Baytan had narrated to him, that he heard Ruwayf ibn Thabit say: That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Ruwayf ibn Thabit, perhaps life will prolong for you after me, so inform the people that whoever ties his beard, or wears a turban, or uses the dung of an animal, or a bone, for purification, then Muhammad is free from him.'
We were informed by Ubayd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Ali Abu Ja'far, with his isnad, from Yunus ibn Bukayr, from Ibn Ishaq, he said: That Yazid ibn Abu Habib informed me, from Abu Marzuk, the freed slave of Tujib, from Hanash al-San'ani, he said: We invaded the Maghreb with Ruwayf ibn Thabit, and he opened a village, it is said: Jarba, and he stood as a speaker, and said: I do not say to you except what I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say about us on the day of Khaybar: 'It is not permissible for a believer in Allah and the Hereafter to irrigate the land of another with his water.'
Meaning: The taking of the spoils of war, and it is not permissible for a believer in Allah and the Hereafter to strike a woman from the spoils until she is purified, and it is not permissible for a believer in Allah and the Hereafter to sell spoils until they are distributed, and it is not permissible for a believer in Allah and the Hereafter to ride an animal from the spoils
