Biography of Sumayyah Umm Ammar
Sumayyah is the mother of Ammar bin Yasser. She is Sumayyah bint Khabat. She was a slave of Abu Hudhayfah ibn Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzoumi. Yasser was an ally of Abu Hudhayfah, so he married him to Sumayyah. She bore him Ammar, so Abu Hudhayfah freed him. She was one of the first to convert to Islam. Another report states: She was the seventh of seven in Islam. She was among those who were punished in the name of Allah. Reported by Abu Jaafar, on the authority of Ibn Ishaq, who said: Men from the family of Ammar bin Yasser told me that Sumayyah, the mother of Ammar, was tortured by this neighborhood of the Banu Al-Mughirah bin Abdullah bin Omar bin Makhzum to convert to Islam. She refused to accept anything else, until they killed her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, passed by Ammar and his mother and father while they were being tortured in the sand of Mecca. He said: "Patience, family of Yasser, your promise is Paradise."
