The 8 categories of zakat recipients

Islamic Fiqh > Zakat > The 8 categories of zakat recipients

The 8 categories named by the Quran, with their definition and the rules of distribution among them.

Zakat is reserved to 8 categories of beneficiaries named by the Quran, whose definition and rules of distribution this page sets out. The miskin (needy person) is, for the Hanafis and the Malikis, one who finds nothing at all, so that he needs to ask for charity, and it is lawful for him to take it. The seventh category is spending in the way of Allah, which covers the voluntary fighters with no share in the diwan; the eighth is the traveler, with the rules of distribution between all the categories.
