The collection of the 40 hadiths of Imam Abu Zakariya an-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) gathers the most essential statements of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): faith, intentions, worship, character and daily conduct. It is the most studied hadith compilation in the world, memorized by students of knowledge for centuries.

The collection

Imam an-Nawawi (631-676 H) selected these hadiths as the foundations of Islam: each one covers a pillar of the religion, from the intention behind deeds to the prohibition of harm. Two hadiths were added to the famous forty, so the collection counts forty-two narrations, all authentic and recorded by Bukhari, Muslim and the other collectors.
