To whom not to give zakat

Islamic Fiqh > Zakat > To whom not to give zakat

Persons to whom zakat cannot be paid: the rich, those entitled to the alms, non-Muslims per the majority, and the family rules.

Zakat cannot be paid to the rich: the scholars agreed that it is not lawful for him, for Allah has destined it for the poor and the needy. It is also unlawful for the Banu Hashim, the Prophet's family, by the agreement of the scholars, and a man may not pay zakat to his wife, by consensus according to Al-Kasani. This page finally covers the forbidden recipients of zakat al-fitr, the taxes and levies that do not count as zakat, the transfer from one town to another and paying the monetary value.

God and His angels shower their blessings on the Prophet. O believers, you should also send your blessings on him, and salute him with a worthy greeting.
