عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَا أَسْفَلَ مِنَ الكَعْبَيْنِ مِنَ الإِزَارِ فَفِي النَّارِ».

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is below the ankles of the lower garment is in Hellfire."

• The prohibition of lengthening the garment to extend below the ankles for men, and that is one of the major sins.
• Ibn Hajar said: An exception for letting the Izār (lower garment) trail applies to anyone who does so out of necessity, such as someone with a wound in his ankles, for example, that would be harmed by flies if not covered by his lower garment, especially when he has no other option.
• This ruling is specific to men, as women have been commanded to let their garments hang below the ankles, extending to the length of a forearm.
