What to say and do upon good or bad news

كان صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا أتاه الأمر يسره قال : الحمد لله الذي بنعمته تتم الصالحات و إذا أتاه أمر يكرهه قال : الحمد لله على كل حال

Pronunciation

Kana salla-llahu 'alayhi wa sallam idha atahu-l-amru yussiruhu qala: al-hamdu lillahi-lladhi bi-ni'matihi tatimmu-s-salihat, wa idha atahu amrun yukrihuhu qala: al-hamdu lillahi 'ala kulli hal.

Translation

The Prophet ﷺ, when good came to him, said: "Praise be to Allah, by whose favor good deeds are completed." And when bad came to him, he said: "Praise be to Allah in all circumstances."
